Uh Huh Honey

Do Native Bees Produce Honey?

Yes! They do. Solitary native bees only produce little honey to feed their young, but native social bees make small amounts of a delicious honey. Honey from native bees is called sugarbag and has a lemon and/or eucalyptus flavour. This is from the small resin pots near the extremities of the nest, stingless bees store their flavoursome honey in. Sugarbag honey is a delicious and rare treat that should be savoured, as each hive only produces 1kg of honey per year. Because of the rare amount of honey, honey can only be extracted in warm climates such as Queensland and northern New South Wales. This is because they need their honey to survive in the winter months. To purchase Sugarbag Click Here
